URETERIC STONES TREATMENT

Kidney Ureteric Stone

A large number of patients who have Kidney Stones or Ureteric Stones suffer from recurrent pain. These stones also cause damage to the kidneys and the ureter. In some cases these kidney stones cause infection in the kidney which can result in kidney failure. Some kinds of food are known to cause stones in the body. Drinking lesser water is also a known cause for stones in the body. Smaller stones get passed through the urine by drinking 2-3 litres of water on the advice of your doctor. Larger stones get stuck into the kidney or the ureter and may require other methods or surgery to remove them before they cause irreparable damage to the organs.

Ureteroscopic Surgery

While larger kidney stones are removed through a surgery called PCNL in which a small incision is made into your back and the surgeon enters the kidney to first crush the stones into smaller pieces and then remove them. To remove a smaller stone in your ureter or kidney, your doctor may pass a thin lighted tube (ureteroscope) equipped with a camera through your urethra and bladder to your ureter.

Once the stone is located, special tools can grasp the stone or break it into pieces that will pass in your urine. Your doctor may then place a small tube (stent) in the ureter to relieve swelling and promote healing. The surgery is normally done under spinal anaesthesia so that you would not feel any pain during the procedure.

Best Doctors and Cost

Dr Virendra Dhankar is one of the best Urologist and surgeon for doing the URS Surgery for the removal of large stones from the kidneys or the ureters. The cost of URS Surgery is Rs. 45,000 - 55,000 with one day of stay in the hospital. For stopping recurrence of urinary stones the patient needs to have proper levels of Vitamin D, drink adequate amount of water and avoid certain foods which are known to cause stones in the body.

If you have an individual health insurance policy then this surgery is covered after a period of 2 years from the date of inception of the policy. However if you are a beneficiary of company given policy then the surgery is covered from day one. Always go through the terms of your health insurance policy like room rent capping and co-payment to avoid any kind of financial shocks later on.
