Tubectomy is also known as female sterlisation. It is a type of permanent contrception method. There are two fallopian tubes that are attached to uterus. The egg is released from the ovary and through fallopian tubes it is trabsferred into uterus. In case there is sperm present in the fallopian tubes then the egg is fertilised in the fallopian tube and then is embedded in the uterus. When a couple has completed her family then they can opt for a permanent sterlization or sealing of the fallopian tube so that the eggs cannot pass into uterus thereby preventing any future pregnancy.
Apart from female sterlization or family planning tubectomy can also be done for other reasons that include:
Ectopic Pregnancy - Ectopic pregnancy can happen in fallopian tubes. That case to save the life of the mother one of the fallopian tubes need to be removed.
Hysterectomy - In case a patient has been advised hysterectomy then along with uterus fallopian tubes are also removed
Gynaecological Cancer - In case of cancer of reproductive system during the surgery, which in most cases is radical hysterectomy, fallopian tubes are also removed by the gynaecologist or the surgeon.
